Know that old adage that says you can't get something for nothing?
Well, according to the oft counterintuitive rules of quantum physics, it turns out you can. Indeed, it might be that you can't help but do so. And Lawrence Krauss, author of A Universe from Nothing, is just the person to tell us why. He may also have a thing or two to say about whether any Strings or curled up dimensions are actually hiding in the mirror. And if you're looking for true longevity, wait till you meet the protagonist of Atom, a figure of minute yet epic stature who's just about seen it all, metaphorically speaking.
As for our guest, who will be joining us via Skype from Arizona . . . Lawrence Krauss is amongst the foremost scientists and scientific communicators of our time. He's written over 300 peer reviewed papers and had numerous articles published in the popular press along with several best selling books. He's also the Founder and Director of the Origins Project, which explores the origins of the universe, life, and consciousness amongst other things, and he serves as a member of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Science and Security Board, charged with keeping us informed of the very real risk our species faces of annihilating itself. And finally, as an outspoken defender of critical thinking who's concerned with where we're headed, he was the 2015 Humanist of the Year.
So if you're eager to immerse yourself in the grandeur of science, please fire up your brains, prepare some questions, and join us for an enlightening Question & Answer session with theoretical physicist, Lawrence Krauss on Sunday, May 1, 2016. Dr. Krauss will join us from 1:00 PM to 2:00PM (EDT) and we may then continue to discuss issues as a group until 3:00 PM (EDT) at the First Unitarian Universalist Church - Main Hall - 1000 Blanton Avenue, Richmond, VA 23221.
