The American Humanist Association strives to bring about a progressive society where being good without a god is an accepted and respected way to live life. We are accomplishing this through our defense of civil liberties and secular governance, by our outreach to the growing number of people without traditional religious faith, and through a continued refinement and advancement of the humanist worldview.

Major Sponsor

Fredericksburg Secular Humanists (FSH) can trace its beginnings to the the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fredericksburg (UUFF) and the Unitarian Universalist Infidels (UUI). In the fall of 2002, a group within the Infidels formed FSH. The group began meeting in the local library, determined to form an independent group which would be separate from any religious organization. The Fredericksburg Secular Humanists (FSH) were pleased to be accepted as the eighth chapter of WASH in 2006

This sponsorship was made possible by Fred McCoy, a long time FSH member and former WASH Board Member.

Pitchstone Publishing Ever wonder why the world seems so irrational, and whether anything can be done about it? Want to see fewer appeals to religion and faith in the public sphere, and more appeals to science and reason? So do we. Pitchstone is an independent, interdisciplinary press committed to publishing books that shed light on the human condition and that promote civilizational advancement through a naturalistic, scientific, and humanistic perspective.
We would also like to thank Dusty Sabourin for lending us her artistic talent and Curtis Herrera Smith for his promotional efforts and for setting up a preconference Meet and Greet on Friday, April 12th.

Finally, we would like to thank the First Unitarian Universalist Church (which has served as Greater Richmond Humanists' home for years and helped support us with an annual budget) and Diversity Richmond. Beyond their hosting of our conference on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, we appreciate the longstanding efforts both groups have made to foster a more humane society.
